Granny's Bavarian Apple Tart
Quick to make but looks like you spent hours.
This is another recipe from my mother. It is extremely quick to make, yet it looks and tastes like it must have taken all afternoon. The entire production is made easy with the help of a food processor. How did we ever manage without those things?
Pastry
1/2 cup butter
1/3 cup sugar
1 cup flour
Cream the butter and sugar in food processor. Add the flour until well blended. Pat this into the bottom and up the sides of a 10-inch springform pan.
Filling
8 ounces cream cheese
1/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon sugar
Mix the cream cheese and sugar in food processor. Add the egg and vanilla. Spread this over the pastry.
Topping
4 cups thinly sliced Granny Smith or other cooking apple. Slice these in the food processor or with a mandolin so they are very thin.
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon Calvados (optional)
Mix these ingredients together and spread over the filling.
Bake for 10 minutes at 450 degrees, then 20 minutes at 400 degrees until it is beginning to turn golden on top.
